紫色，日常生活中是指一种颜色，紫色是由温暖的红色和冷静的蓝色化合而成，是极佳的刺激色。在中国传统里，紫色是尊贵的颜色，如北京故宫又称为“紫禁城”，亦有所谓“紫气东来”。受此影响，如今日本王室仍尊崇紫色。这源于中国古代对北极星的崇拜。但是在明黄成《髹饰录》中则将紫色解释为茶色，雀头等色。所以在古代漆器中，紫色漆器一般指偏为棕色的漆器。另有同名电影《紫色》，书籍《紫色》。
