简称民国。1912—1949年中国国家的名称。1912年1月1日孙中山在南京领导建立了资产阶级民主政权，宣告中华民国成立，结束了两千多年的封建统治。但这一政权不久被北洋军阀袁世凯篡夺，成为地主、买办阶级联合专政的工具。1927年四一二反革命政变后，政权落入蒋介石集团手里。1949年中国人民在中国共产党领导下，推翻了南京国民政府，建立了中华人民共和国。
