汉语拼音：bái huà

1.指不能实现或没有根据的话：空口说～。

2.指现代汉语（普通话）的书面形式。它是唐宋以来在口语的基础上形成的，起初只用于通俗文学作品，到五四运动以后才在社会上普遍应用：～文。～小说。

1. 空话；没有根据或不能实现的话。

   明 李贽 《初潭集》卷十七“刘伶纵酒放达”评：“不是大话，亦不是白话。”《红楼梦》第五七回：“ 紫鹃 道：‘你妹妹回 苏州 家去。’ 寳玉 笑道：‘你又説白话。 苏州 虽是原籍，因没了姑父姑母，无人照管，纔就了来的。明年回去找谁？可见是扯谎。’” 曹禺 《北京人》第一幕：“你别以为我在跟你说白话，我早已看好了尼姑庵，都跟老尼姑说好了。”

2. 说话；闲聊。

   《醒世恒言·陈多寿生死夫妻》：“ 王三老 正在门首，同几个老人家閒坐白话。”《醒世姻缘传》第四回：“如今他正合一个什么 周公 在那里白话。”《花城》1981年第6期：“在您面前，轮不上我白话。”

3. 汉语书面语的一种。它是 唐 宋 以来在口语的基础上形成的，起初只用于通俗文学作品，如 唐 代的变文， 宋 、 元 、 明 、 清 的话本、小说等，及 宋 元 以后的部分学术著作和官方文书。到“五四”新文化运动以后，才在社会上普遍应用。

   瞿秋白 《文艺杂著·荒漠里》：“‘文学的白话，白话的文学’都还没有着落。” 胡适 《文学改良刍议》：“自佛书之输入，译者以文言不足以达意，故以浅近之文译之，其体已近白话。” 茅盾 《我走过的道路·文学与政治的交错》：“译文很准确，很风趣，又很通俗，是地道的白话。”
