因大脑功能严重受损而长时间失去知觉。严重的外伤、脑出血、脑膜炎等都能引起昏迷。

1. 愚昧；糊涂。

   《书·大禹谟》：“蠢兹 有苗 ，昏迷不恭。” 唐 陆贽 《论淮西水损处请遣宣慰使状》：“率土之内，莫非王臣，或有昏迷不龚，是由教化未至。”《东周列国志》第一○六回：“ 赵王 一向昏迷，惟 郭开 之言是听，到此危急之际，益无主持，遂依其言。” 郭沫若 《我的童年》第二篇五：“这在文脉上十分明晰，但因为在这一问一答的中间插进了 伯夷 叔齐 的传说在里面，这把古今来的注疏家、批评家便完全弄昏迷了。”

3. 沉迷，沉醉。

   明 王守仁 《传习录》卷中：“时君世主，亦皆昏迷颠倒於其説。”《英烈传》第一回：“ 顺帝 只知昏迷酒色，那里晓得外面的灾异。”

4. 指社会政治黑暗混乱。

   宋 苏舜钦 《诣匦疏》：“凡朝廷政教昏迷，下受其弊。”

5. 昏暗迷茫。

   《西游记》第五十回：“若遇大江昏迷，蜃现此势。”《英烈传》第二二回：“儻或雨云坠地，恍如长夜昏迷。”
