1. 古代用以治痈疽、除脓血的石针。

   《素问·异法方宜论》：“其病皆为痈疡，其治宜砭石。” 王冰 注：“砭石，谓以石为鍼也。” 汉 桓宽 《盐铁论·大论》：“是以砭石藏而不施，法令设而不用。”《南史·王僧孺传》：“侍郎 全元起 欲注《素问》，访以砭石。 僧孺 答曰：‘古人当以石为针，必不用铁。’” 清 俞正燮 《癸巳类稿·持素持篇》：“粗工用砭石，病愈多出血。”

2. 即窆石。石上端有孔，用以穿绳引棺下穴。

   明 郎瑛 《七修类稿·奇谑一·动石银锚》：“ 大禹 之塚在 绍兴 ，去城十餘里。塚上直竖一石，名曰砭石，如人家擂搥，可以动摇。”
