   《韩非子·说难》：“略事陈意则曰怯懦而不尽；虑事广肆则曰草野而倨侮。”《汉书·司马迁传》：“僕虽怯耎欲苟活，亦颇识去就之分矣，何至自湛溺累紲之辱哉！”《隋书·段达传》：“ 达 不能因机决胜，唯持重自守，顿兵馈粮，多无剋获，时皆谓之为怯愞。” 宋 叶适 《梁父吟》：“余既朴陋而不能谋兮，又怯耎而畏兵。” 王蒙 《火之歌》：“他们面临的不仅有帮派分子的破坏，还有怯懦和奴性这两位‘虎伥’的阻挠。”
