自贬 [zì biǎn]

1. 自贬本为教徒自我抑制欲求的一种行为。以佛教的观点而言，罪恶因有肉身而起；由于人有肉身的各种欲求，为了自我的不断提升与精进，人一方面就需要有「自弃」（参阅「自弃」辞目）的思念与行为，另一方面则克制自我，消除自我，尤其是自私、自利的思虑。早期基督宗教的圣者，亦多以视身体为自我的敌人，来严苛自己；不贪求，不享乐，采取禁欲的生活方式。自贬在教育上的意义，可提示人们注意自私与大我之间的平衡及身心之间的和谐。
