旧称佧佤族。中国少数民族之一。人口35万（1990年）。分布在云南省沧源、西盟、孟连、耿马等地。有本民族语言，部分通汉语文，1949年后设计了拉丁字母形式的文字方案。建有沧源、西盟等佤族自治县。
