包在花冠外面的部分。通常绿色，由若干萼片组成，在花芽期有保护作用。花开时托着花冠。萼（è）。

1. 亦作“ 花蕚 ”。花的组成部分之一，由若干萼片组成，包在花瓣外面，花开时托着花冠。简称萼。有时亦指花。

   南朝 宋 鲍照 《采桑》诗：“乳燕逐草虫，巢蜂拾花蕚。” 南朝 梁 刘勰 《文心雕龙·情采》：“夫水性虚而沦漪结，木体实而花萼振，文附质也。” 明 谢谠 《四喜记·花亭佳偶》：“花萼轻摇，一曲花歌百闷消。”《老残游记》第十一回：“十年之间，籜甲渐解，至甲寅而齐。寅属木，为花萼之象。”

2. 《诗·小雅·常棣》：“常棣之华，鄂不韡韡。凡今之人，莫如兄弟。”华，萼和花同生一枝，且有保护花瓣的作用，故后常以“花萼”比喻兄弟或兄弟间和睦友爱的情谊。

   唐 杨炯 《唐右将军魏哲神道碑》：“门传万石，庭列双珠，花萼争荣，芝兰蔼秀。”《新唐书·李乂传》：“ 乂 事兄 尚一 、 尚贞 ，孝谨甚，又俱以文章自名，兄弟同为一集，号《李氏花萼集》。”
