1. 用泥捏成的人像。古代多用于求雨或祈晴。

   三国 魏 应璩 《与广川长岑文瑜书》：“土龙矫首於玄寺，泥人鹤立於 闕里 。” 宋 曾慥 《类说·事始·泥人祈晴》：“ 天宝 中，秋雨两月餘，勑人家门前作泥人，长三尺，左手指天，右手指地以祈晴。” 清 蒋超伯 《通斋诗话》卷下：“古有泥人请雨之法。”

2. 指陶俑。

3. 佛教语。指身陷地狱的人。

   《广弘明集·唐临＜冥报记·傅奕传＞》：“ 傅奕 生平不信佛，死受何报？答曰：‘ 傅奕 已配 越州 作泥人矣。’ 道宣 案：‘泥人者，谓泥犂中人也，泥犂即地狱之别名矣。’”
