潜水艇的简称。能潜入水下活动和作战的舰艇。水中排水量数十吨至近万吨，下潜深度一般为100—400米。具有良好的荫蔽性，较大的自给力、续航力和突击威力，能远离基地长期独立在海上进行战斗活动。主要任务是袭击敌大、中型舰船和岸上重要目标，并担任战役侦察任务。潜艇有特种水柜，用来注水和排水，以供下潜和浮起之用。按武器装备，分导弹潜艇和鱼雷潜艇；按动力装置，分核潜艇和常规动力潜艇。
