1. 即汞。

   《史记·秦始皇本纪》：“以水银为百川江河大海，机相灌输。” 晋 葛洪 《抱朴子·金丹》：“凡草木烧之即烬，而丹砂烧之成水银，积变又还成丹砂。” 宋 陆游 《老学庵笔记》卷三：“ 达明 復命函 贯 首自随，以生油、水银浸之，而以生牛皮固函。” 闻一多 《红烛·李白之死》：“又圆又大的热泪滚向膨胀的胸前，却有水银一般地沉重与灿烂。”

2. 指月。

   唐 李白 《上云乐》诗：“云见日月初生时，铸冶火精与水银。” 王琦 注引《淮南子·天文训》：“积阴之寒气为水，水气之精者为月。”

3. 喻水珠。

   南朝 梁元帝 《登江洲百花亭怀荆楚》诗：“柳絮飘春雪，荷珠漾水银。” 宋 杨万里 《六月九日晓登连天观》诗：“晓风草草君知么？不为高荷惜水银。”
