利用光学透镜组把样品的像放大，从而看出它的微细结构的仪器。主要由一短焦距的透镜组作为物镜和一焦距较长的透镜组作为目镜组成，分别固定在金属管两端，目镜和物镜间的距离可以调节。分光学显微镜和电子显微镜，放大率约为几百到80万倍左右。广泛用于生物学、医学、农业以及矿冶、机械等工业中。
