道路路面或铁路轨道下的基础建筑。分有(1)路堑。在天然地面开挖而成的；(2)路堤。在天然地面填筑而成的；(3)半填半挖路基。在天然地面半开挖半填筑而成的。顶面称为"路基面"，两侧斜坡称为"边坡"。两旁通常设置边沟、截水沟、排水沟、盲沟等排水设施，特殊地区的路基两旁还需采取防护或加固措施，以保证路基稳固耐久。
